Supported system of country codes

Learn about ISO 3166 and the integration of this standard into Fillet Origins.

About ISO 3166

Fillet Origins uses ISO 3166 as the starting point for a system of country codes. Specifically, Fillet Origins uses ISO 3166-1:2020, which is Part 1 of this standard’s three parts, and is the most up-to-date version of this standard.

Fillet Origins uses ISO 3166-1 because it is a widely used international standard. ISO 3166-1, and particularly ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 two-letter country codes, is implemented in other standards such as the following:

  1. ISO 9362, “Bank Identifier Codes (BIC)”, also known as “SWIFT codes”
  2. ISO 13616, “International Bank Account Number (IBAN)”
  3. ISO 4217, “Currency Code”
  4. UN/LOCODE, United Nations Code for Trade and Transport Locations, which is implemented by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.

Although ISO 3166-1 is not the only standard for country codes, other country codes used by various international organizations tend to closely correspond to ISO 3166-1 codes.

In upcoming releases, Fillet Origins will support additional standards and representations of geographic data.
